faqs about pelvic floor physical therapy

  • Yes! Pelvic floor PT isn’t just for postpartum moms. It can help women of all ages—even those who haven’t had children—improve issues like pain with sex, urinary leaking, constipation, and more.

  • Dr. Emily will call you at your scheduled time to discuss your symptoms in depth. You will then have the opportunity to schedule your first appointment.

  • Dr. Emily will bring her treatment table and supplies needed for your appointment. You will need a place to sit and discuss your symptoms with Dr. Emily, such as your kitchen table or living room furniture. You will also need space for her table to be set up.

  • Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. If an internal pelvic floor exam is performed, you’ll undress from the waist down and will be draped with a sheet to maintain your privacy and comfort.

  • A pelvic floor physical therapy internal exam involves a vaginal assessment to check pelvic floor muscle strength, tone, coordination, and identify any areas of pain or dysfunction. The exam is always done with your informed consent and is used to guide your personalized treatment plan. Please feel free to ask Dr. Emily any questions before, during, or after your session.

  • You're welcome to bring your partner, friend, or family member to your appointment if it helps you feel more comfortable.
